Free Range Brewing opened in July 2015 in NoDa, founded by brothers Jeff and Jason Alexander. This neighborhood brewery specializes in taproom craft beer, farmhouse ales, wild ales, and IPAs, using locally sourced ingredients with percentages labeled on their beer menu. The brewery oozes authenticity with a laid-back, neighborhood bar feel. Located directly next to Rhino Market (customers can bring food in), Free Range offers a variety of bar snacks and features an intimate back room that doubles as a live music venue. The family-friendly brewery has outdoor space for guests and their dogs, and is known for friendly bartenders and chill vibes. They host regular community events including their famous annual New Year's Day free soup event.

Vaulted Oak Brewing opened June 9, 2021, in a beautifully refurbished BB&T Bank building in East Charlotte. Conveniently located near Oakhurst, Echo Hills, Elizabeth, and Cotswold neighborhoods, it has rapidly become a favorite neighborhood establishment. The brewery is especially popular with families and dog-friendly neighbors, featuring 10-12 house-made beers on tap alongside local seltzer, cider, prosecco, an extensive wine list, and non-alcoholic options. With no on-site restaurant, they host a great rotation of food trucks Wednesday through Sunday, with Sal's Pizza conveniently located right across the street. The spacious interior features board games, both indoor and outdoor seating, and a laid-back atmosphere perfect for the community to gather.

Sugar Creek Brewing Company opened in 2014 in Charlotte’s South End, carving out a niche with its European-inspired approach to craft beer. Brewing on a traditional system, Sugar Creek is best known for Belgian-style ales, crisp lagers, and thoughtfully executed saisons, dubbels, and tripels, while also offering approachable IPAs and seasonal specialties. The brewery places a strong emphasis on balance, drinkability, and classic technique rather than trend-chasing. They regularly release new brews while maintaining core favorites, and their food menu includes tasty flatbreads and other pub fare. This family-owned brewery opened in May 2023 in downtown Huntersville, transforming the former police headquarters into an inviting 8,000-square-foot taproom and production facility. Led by father-son duo Wagner and Trey Ramsey, 760 Craft Works has become a neighborhood gathering spot with both indoor seating and an expansive outdoor area complete with umbrellas, string lights, misting fans, and green space. The brewery sits at the head of the Downtown Huntersville Greenway, making it perfectly positioned for foot traffic. The name references Lake Norman's elevation at full pond—760 feet above sea level.

Triple C Brewing Company, one of Charlotte's original breweries, has been a staple of the South End neighborhood since opening. The name represents Craft, Community, and Charlotte - values that guide everything they do. Their rustic-themed brewery features both a main taproom and a Barrel Room event space across the street. Triple C operates a 15-barrel brewhouse and a 7-barrel system in the barrel room, plus two 15-barrel foeders for aged beers. Izzy's Wood Fired Kitchen, their permanent on-site food truck, consistently produces some of the best food in Charlotte with a perfect 100 sanitation grade. The brewery is known for supporting the South End community, environmental initiatives including Catawba River clean-up, and hosting regular events including live music, trivia, yoga, bike club, and run club.

Fonta Flora Brewery opened their Charlotte location at Optimist Hall in January 2020, bringing the taste of Appalachia to the Queen City. Originally founded in Morganton in 2013, Fonta Flora is named after a sharecropping community near the Linville River that was flooded to create Lake James. The brewery integrates the soul of agriculture with the art of zymurgy (fermentation), using water from their wells and supporting agriculture from surrounding counties. They operate a 9-acre farm with orchards of persimmons and pawpaws, employing regenerative farming concepts. Cofounder and brewmaster Todd Boera crafts 50-70 varieties of beer annually using as much North Carolina malt and local farm ingredients as possible. The Charlotte taproom features both indoor and outdoor patio seating with draft beer, house-made cocktails, and packaged products available.

Hoptown Brewing opened in March 2021 in Mooresville's Lake Norman area, founded by Scott and Sandy Plemmons. Scott's beer-making journey began with a homebrew kit gift from Sandy, evolving from homebrewing to commercial brewing under the original name 'Hootenanny.' The brewery focuses on incredible beer, fun social gatherings, and giving back to the community. Featuring a bright and friendly taproom with 17-18 rotating beers brewed on-site, plus cider, seltzer, wine, and prosecco, Hoptown offers an expansive outdoor 'backyard' area perfect for gathering. Head Brewer Kyle McLaughlin joined in 2022 and created the award-winning Sweet Wings Honey Wheat Ale. The brewery is deeply committed to community support through their 'Sip It Forward' program, which has donated over $50,000 to local nonprofits.

Heist Brewery opened its doors in 2012 as Charlotte's only craft brewpub, becoming a pillar of the beer scene. Founded in December 2013 by home brewers Ray Steimel and David Hoy, Primal Brewery opened its flagship Huntersville location on December 26, 2014, becoming Huntersville's first brewery. Starting with a 1-barrel brewhouse, they've grown significantly, opening a second location in Belmont in 2020 with a 10-barrel production facility. The name 'Primal' reflects their philosophy that beer is essential and fundamental to life. Their mission is to brew beer for all tastes and preferences, creating styles that appeal to both first-time craft beer drinkers and seasoned aficionados. The Huntersville taproom offers a warm, low-ceiling gathering space with outdoor beer garden, while the Belmont location handles main production.

Since opening in September 2017, Resident Culture has become one of Charlotte's most acclaimed breweries. Their flagship Plaza Midwood location, housed in a family-owned warehouse since 1982, serves as both brewery and taproom with an active brewing operation you can smell as you enter. The motto 'where your weird is welcome' captures their inclusive, funky community vibe. They have a genuine appreciation for assertive, hop-forward styles while also excelling at lagers and mixed culture/spontaneous fermentation beers. Named after the Suffolk horse (an English breed known for its strength and solid appearance), the concept embodies "proper good craft" in every aspect. Hi-Wire Brewing opened their Charlotte location in South End in July 2022, bringing Asheville's award-winning lagers and ales to the Queen City. This is Hi-Wire's eighth location and first to feature two separate bars with a total of 36 taps of Hi-Wire beer, including year-rounds, seasonals, specialties, sours, and one-offs, plus wine and cider. The 8,743-square-foot taproom features high ceilings, walls of windows, and a 2,000-square-foot outdoor beer garden. This independently-owned nano brewery features a 14-tap system with comfortable outdoor sidewalk seating and a warm taproom atmosphere perfect for gatherings.
