Lower Left Brewing Company opened in August 2019 in Charlotte's historic Lower Southend neighborhood in a former auto shop. Owners Tim Curtis and Alex Shoenthal met in Spring 2018 and bonded over their shared vision for a unique brewery featuring Alex's award-winning beers from 12+ years of brewing experience. The quaint taproom features 18 continually rotating taps offering variety from traditional to experimental styles including IPAs, sour ales, mixed-fermentation, farmhouse and Belgian-inspired brews, historic and experimental beers, barrel-aged beers, and fruit/botanical infusions. Lower Left was named 2021 North Carolina Brewery of the Year and 2021 New Brewery of the Year. The brewery features front and back patios with outdoor seating, next to Nightswim Coffee and Dogs All Day. Known for their trio of Gold Medal-winning homebrew recipes including Cemetery Gates Smoked Porter and Three Hour Tour Blonde Ale.
